Magic Cauldron
The quote that strikes me is this’ Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic”. Having open source looks like magic because it really helps people to do their own stuffs with it. Before, I thought that there are no products that would be free for everyone to use. But when open source came, I said to myself it is free! Why would people create an open source to be free. It is like a magic that happens because there are now financial crisis happening, but still there are applications that offered just for free. Also, I can say that it is not only free, but it is also has quality in it. We thought that if it is free, the product might not work to us since companies are giving it for free. But I can see in web that if it is open source, it is working and performing better than other applications. It is magic because it is not only free but it has quality. These two term namely cheaper in cost and quality are rarely to be connected since we have a mindset that if it is free, it does not have quality. While, it is with quality, it is expensive. Everyone is waiting for this to happen wherein it is free and with good quality. Everyone will try to use it since nothing will be wasted if they will try to used it.
This essay also discussed the development of open source. It is founded because of the cooperation and exchange of information that they gave in order for this open source to come true. The question that I have in my mind now is how do developers gain money from free software. But since, I learned adsense, I think they might gain money from advertisements in the web.
Open source has these four terms namely better quality, higher reliability, lower costs, and increased choice.
